Today's ride was suppose to be a century... My body could handle 100 miles today, but 34.10 will have to due. ARG!!!!!
After leaving Doug's GMA project a bit late, I got to REI to get some things for my bike. I was on the trail at Spring Mill by 2pm. I did the Philly leg of my century ride first. It was a good idea.
Today the trails everywhere I biked were very yuppy heavy. I haven't seen so many people wearing "Northface" ever. I swear I saw the same sorta tall, slim 30-some man with a blond gf/wife, yet wearing every yuppy outdoors outfit out there. LOL! I shouldn't bust on them, since they tend to be trail saavy enough to follow basic trail ettiquete. This trip to Philly wasn't as bad as most were, which was good for once.
After biking back to Spring Mill, I got my wind breaker on and headed on the CCT to Plymouth Meeting. When I was climbing the trail at Ikea, I switched gears, I felt a slip, then my chain was booth noisy and loose. The bolt on one of my sprokets failed and I lost my sproket. I was still able to ride my bike slowly 3-4 miles back to my truck.
Since I was near REI, I ended up getting a pack of sprokets there, since all the bike shops close after 5pm on Saturdays. (I was after 6pm). The bike mechanics pointed out some other issues with my bike, which I am going to get worked on at my bike shop in Collegeville.
I noticed I was missing screws, so I went to the hardware store. I knew they wouldn't have the ones I needed, but they did have something close to it, good enough to use to work on my bike. I ended up drilling out the broken bolt and was able to tempotatily fix my deraileur. I am not going to ghetto rig my bike, which I will put thousands of miles on, then the trip to Bike Sport tomorrow.
So how many days and miles will I lose while I wait to get my bike trail ready? I'll lose 80 miles that I had schedule to ride this week. I might just miss my 200 miles goal for the month. I'll do my best to get my goal or just barely miss it.
